Ciaran Dwyer aus Newbridge, Irland ist der Kopf hinter Knoxville Morning, die eigentlich nur als ein Nebenprojekt des Sängers der Gruppe „Band On An Island“ gedacht ist, jedoch immer weiter zu wachsen beginnt. Schließlich springt dabei das selbstbetitelte Album heraus, das unter Mitwirkung von einigen Hochkarätern der irischen Indie-Szene, wie Stefan Murphy (The Mighty Stef), Brian Gallagher (Humanzi) und Stephen Fahey (Super Extra Bonus Party), entsteht.
Die Songs entstehen während eines Roadtrips quer durch die USA und dokumentieren seine Reise über Chicago nach Virginia, Memphis, Nashville und Knoxville. Ciaran Dwyer erzählt mit intuitiver Schönheit Geschichten von Liebeleien in dunkelen Seitengässchen von Austin, Volleyballspielerinnen in Mississippi, New Yorks East Village oder von Partynächten in New Orleans.
Ein toller Mix aus Geschichten, die einem bei einer solchen Reise widerfahren. Zufällige Bekanntschaften, verrückte Geschichten von Leuten und Plätzen, die man besucht, sowie Freundschaft, Verbrüderungen und Geheimnisse, die man mit den wenigen Menschen teilt, die die Reise mitgemacht haben.
„Am Ende der Reise hatte ich zwei dutzend Songs auf dem Papier, die eigentlich auf einem Solo-Album erscheinen sollten. Als ich mehr an den Songs arbeitete, veränderte sich das Bild, die Songs wurden komplexer und immer mehr Freunde wurden mit einbezogen. Jeder brachte seinen Part mit ein und schon bald beinhalteten die Songs weit mehr als nur meine Geschichten.“ – So Ciaran Dwyer zur Entstehung des Albums.
Aufgenommen wurden die Songs von Tim Crowley an verschiedenen Orten in Newbridge, Co. Kildare und später von Peter Lee gemixt.
Live präsentiert sich die Band in unterschiedlichsten Gewändern. „Mal gehst du einen Stück des Weges alleine und spielst solo, dann sind gute Freunde mit dabei, mit denen du auf der Bühne stehst und manchmal ergibt sich etwas ganz spontanes – wie auf einem Roadtrip eben...“
Das Album wird am 15.03.2013 in Deutschland veröffentlicht (Tonetoaster/Alive). 2013 kommt die Band ebenfalls auf ausgedehnte Deutschlandtour.

Knoxville Morning began life as a solo side-project of Band on an Island’s Ciaran Dwyer, before in time, growing into something far bigger. Joined by fellow Band On An Island members, Stefan Murphy (The Mighty Stef), Gavin Elsted (We Are Losers), Brian Gallagher (Humanzi), Claire Prendergast, Stephen Fahey (Super Extra Bonus Party), Deirdre O'Hagan, Rachael Caffrey and Laura Caffrey, they have created an inviting blend of folk, country and Americana, a classic sound with an Irish twist, draped in Ciaran’s intuitive storytelling.
Born on the American road, "Knoxville Morning" tells tales of Back alley Dalliances in Austin Texas, Mississippi Volleyball girls, New York’s East village and running wild in the big easy of New Orleans. Stories inspired by Chicago, Virginia, Memphis, Nashville and Knoxville all feature on this document of a few weeks spent travelling from one side of the United States to the other.
Ciaran explains: “I ended up with a bunch of songs after going away on a trip. I was going to put it out as a solo record but the more I worked on the songs, it became clear there was more to them so I got a lot more people involved and it turned into something a lot bigger. The more we worked on the songs the more it became apparent that the album was a lot bigger than just me and that the stories weren’t just mine anymore. We wanted to put it out just under the title "Knoxville Morning" and have no band name on it like Damon Albarn did with "The Good, the bad and the Queen" but we settled on assembling a band named after the album title, and this will be what we'll play the record as".
“The record is a mix of stories about the people I met, the strange places I ended up in and the pretty crazy things that happened while I was away. It’s not an album full of American Clichés, it’s an album celebrating the great people and places that I encountered along the way, and celebrating the friendship and brotherhood that exists among a small group of people sharing an experience as amazing as travelling across a country”.
Knoxville Morning’s self titled debut was recorded and produced by Tim Crowley in various locations in Newbridge, County Kildare , with Additional recording and mixing by Peter Lee. The album was mastered by Brian Masterson. “Knoxville Morning” is released on October 12th 2012 in Ireland through The Firstborn is dead Recordings and in Germany through Tonetoaster Records in March 2013.
